I started working for Stop Hunger Now as the Assistant Program Manager at our Southern California warehouse. It was easy to fall in love with the purpose of our work, as the vision to end hunger by 2030 is not only compelling, but also achievable. I learned very quickly that this vision is contagious; people want to be part of it. This is essential to the cause. Ending hunger by 2030 is an “all-play” — we can’t do it alone. This is the primary reason why I believe the work we do through our in-country affiliate locations is fundamental to our strategy and progress. We currently have six in-country offices: South Africa, Malaysia, Philippines, Italy, India and Peru. They are an extension of Stop Hunger Now’s mission, vision and passion spread around the globe.
In my current role as the International Affiliate Development Manager, I have seen firsthand the impact our Affiliates are making. Again and again I am inspired by the level of commitment to our vision displayed by our Affiliate Executive Directors. This past February when I first started in this role, I had the privilege of visiting our office in India. For the first time I witnessed our meals in action. While our meals are important, what truly impressed me was the level of engagement, commitment and care shown to our beneficiaries and partners. The impact we are making is changing the lives of children who are often forgotten. I watched as school children receive our meals as their lunch. For many it was their first and only meal of the day. I did all I could to fight back tears. Behind every meal there is a child, and the importance of our impact became real for me in that moment.
Ending hunger by 2030 is not only compelling, it is not only achievable, it is our duty. Together with our Affiliates and partners around the world, this vision will become a reality. This is #HowWeRise as a global organization.
